A lower cost treadle water pump now available worldwide. Plastic cylinder/valve box with metal frame.
All plastic construction prevents corrosion in regions with saline groundwater. Mounted on a borehole to draw from groundwater. Can be manufactured locally in simple metalworking shops.
This is a variation on the standard treadle pump that lets you lift water above the level of the pump itself. This greatly increases versatility: you can lift water to elevated plots of land, pump through hoses over long distances (up to 500 m), and use it to fill elevated tanks for drip and sprinkler irrigation systems. It retains the advantages of the standard Treadle Pump including low cost, efficient foot-powered operation, and the possibility for local manufacture. Easily maintained, it can generate significant income for small land holders. Irrigates 1 acre (0.4 hectares)with a discharge rate of 1 to 2 L/s depending on cylinder diameter and pumping depth. The maximum suction lift is c. 6 meters and with a pressure lift of c. 10-15 meters. Prices listed are for villagers in countries where this microenterprise is established, not for individual orders which would be more expensive.
