Ecologen Porcelain Urine-Diverting Toilets provide an attractive urine-diverting option for making your own system (with an aerated barrel or other container) or to reduce the load on a below-floor composting toilet. Ecologic urine-diverting toilets offer an attractive solution for composting toilets and wastewater systems in nitrogen-sensitive areas.
Developed in Sweden, Ecologic toilets are used to provide dry sanitation and denitrifying solutions. Only the urine is flushed, using about 0.1th of a quart of water per flush or, simply pour-flush as needed. Solids fall into a bin housed in an insulated container in which negative pressure is created by a fan and vent. The solid waste dries and thus bacteria and viruses are eliminated by a simple and reliable method. After a drying of six months, the waste material c an be burned or buried in the ground where it is quickly broken down into soil. A standard bin (holding 80 liters) will need to be emptied every three months for normal family use. It is simple to empty, as the weight of the bin is no more than 10-12 kg. The negative pressure ensures no unpleasant odor even when the toilet is in use!
