This complete, ready to run, genset has a Semple compound engine, a Windpower PTO Generator, a Beckmann Boatshop 150 psi boiler, a PumpTec high pressure feedwater pump, engine driven feedwater pump all mounted on a single axle trailer as standard equipment. This is not a kit. Any float switches, automatic controls, condensers, hot tanks, vacuum pumps, and associated plumbing can be added at cost plus $50 per hour.
SteamGen gensets are usually used to augment a preexisting solar/wood/ water alternate energy systems to charge a battery bank, operate welders, submersible pumps, shop equipment or to act as a standby generator. The inventor's boiler operates at 150 psi when he uses the steam engine. While using the steam engine you can use the exhaust, which is at 212 F to heat your house, either directly using a steam radiator or by using a heat exchanger in conjunction with a hydronic heating system. The steam engine actually becomes a pressure reducer for your heating system, all the while generating electricity. If you wish not to produce steam/electricity but do wish to heat the house, you can do so by redirecting the hot water in the boiler using valves and a standard hot water re-circulating pump that you install. Then you can heat your house directly from the boiler.
SteamGen steam engine powered generators are able to use bulk fuel (firewood). This requires that you continuously feed the firebox with small pieces of fuel to maintain a hot fire. While feeding the firebox at the boiler you will manually operate the boiler controls. Therefore there is no need for automatic controls to operate the feedwater pumps to maintain water and steam levels. This saves you a tremendous amount of money, as automatic controls will triple the price. SteamGen generators require 100% supervision, but operating a boiler is not rocket science. SteamGen GenSets cannot be left to run unattended, unless you are using the boiler to heat the house only. That will require that you install a float switch to operate the 12-volt feedwater pump. If you find that the labor involved with the operation of a steam engine powered generator is beyond what you had in mind, or you may not have a large supply of bulk fuel readily available to you for free. You may find that a dieselpowered generator may better fulfill your generator needs. Keep in mind that 5 years operating that diesel generator in fuel cost will pay for a GenSet from SteamGen.
While Solar systems may cost $10.00 per watt, Steam Generators normally cost $3.00 per watt.
