Pulse-Width Modulation technology allows much better controlling of battery charge process-rather than a simple on/off setup, the C-40 offers 3-stage charging: Bulk, Absorb, Float.
This controller uses Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) for battery charging. Advantage: Trace estimates that it's good for 15% better charging than is possible with a conventional charge controller. Also really good for 12/24/48V wind or hydro systems where a diversion load is used. Can also be used as a low-voltage disconnect (not at the same time that it's being used as a charger, however). Trace does not actually expect anyone to buy it for such, though!!
