A coming-of-age, rite-of-passage
motif similar to Ursula Le Guin's Earth Sea
series the transition from child to adult, balancing closeness
and distance, resentment vs. appreciation for adults, authority vs. co-operation,
dependence vs. autonomy.
All this set in an environment rich with elemental images, magic and mystery. Captivating story line, easy reading, entertaining; a good book but not our choice in this vote. Highly recommended for teenagers, however.
