Dadiya Sustainable Village, Nigeria
Beryl Kirk is returning from Canada to his parents' village in Nigeria.
His vision is to help develop it into a renewable energy based, sustainable
eco-village and is inviting other interested people to adopt it during
its its birth. It will be a model of local government committed to sustainable
development, democracy and all that those concepts entail. As a result
of Beryl Kirk's visit in March, the tribe obtained their own local government
that is being led by the people who invited him to come back and continue
the work of his parents. He says, "Anything and everything is possible,
an ICT community center, VSAT, radiophone, email and access to internet
for learning, buildings using BASIN information and a microenterprise
for constructing roofing tiles, village / rural electrification using
solar." They have the federal senator for the area on their side
and interested. The plateau behind this picture is where Beryl's parent's
house was - only the school remains now. Water going into this stream
comes from a pipe Beryl's father installed in 1932.
